Shallaway’s Touring Program: A Key Element of Growth

Shallaway Youth Choir is dedicated to empowering young voices through excellence in choral art. Our touring program plays a vital role in fulfilling this mission, offering choristers the opportunity to grow as both musicians and individuals. From day tours and retreats to provincial tours and international experiences, each stage is thoughtfully designed to prepare our choristers for the global stage. These experiences cultivate leadership, foster personal growth, and promote cultural understanding, while also refining their musical skills.

Traveling with Shallaway allows choristers to deeply connect with different cultures, learn from the world around them, and reflect on the impact they can have on others. These opportunities broaden their horizons and help them become more aware of issues larger than themselves. Through these journeys, choristers develop empathy, resilience, and an appreciation for both the beauty and challenges of our diverse world. This progression ensures they are musically and personally prepared for the unique experience of performing internationally, proudly carrying the spirit of Shallaway wherever they go.

At Shallaway, every chorister’s voice is essential to our collective success. We cannot perform at our best if any member of our team is absent, as each voice contributes to the rich, unified sound that defines our choir. Participation in tours is mandatory for all choristers, ensuring that everyone is part of the shared experience. The unity of our voices, both on stage and off, is what allows Shallaway to thrive, embodying the values of community, collaboration, and excellence.

The creation and publication of new artworks by Canadian and international composers is a regular vehicle through which Shallaway Youth Choir seeks to fulfill its cultural mandate. Each season, the choir presents, in national and international venues, world premieres of works it has commissioned.

Past Camerata tours have included Ireland in 2023, South Africa (2017), Cuba (2009, 2022), Iceland and Finland (1999) and many more.
