Anna Mercer

Anna Mercer, a bilingual soprano hailing from Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador, embodies the rich musical heritage of her province. She recently completed her Music Education degree at Memorial University, further enriching her deep connection to music.

Anna holds an undergraduate degree in Music with a minor in French, earned in 2023. During her studies, Anna was honored as a 3M National Student Fellow and appointed to the Board of Directors at Debut Atlantic.

Passionate about sharing her musical talents, Anna dedicated herself to community outreach. She taught piano and music theory with Community Music Literacy in Coastal Labrador, fostering musical growth along the coast.

Anna’s choral journey began in high school when she founded and conducted the Storm Jib Youth Choir, celebrating the unique musical traditions of Newfoundland and Labrador and Indigenous Peoples. Her innovative approach earned recognition and support from the Bruneau Centre for Choral Excellence.

Anna has been a dedicated faculty member of Shallaway Youth Choir for six years, serving as a Choral Scholar and conductor. Her leadership shone brightly as she conducted at events like Choral Canada’s Podium conference and aided with tours to Cuba and Ireland. Anna also represented Canada at the World Choral Expo in Lisbon, Portugal.

Recognizing the power of music to unite communities, Anna founded the Sharing Our Stories Through Song choir for seniors in 2023. Additionally, Anna has helped to facilitating the PAN Lab Choir in Hopedale, Labrador, in both 2023 and 2024, contributing to the cultural enrichment of the region.

Anna has also played a key role in Festival 500’s Growing the Voices: Come All Ye choir program since 2022, working alongside Doug Dunsmore to nurture musical talent and foster a love for singing.

An accomplished soprano, Anna’s vocal prowess has garnered accolades, including the Debut Atlantic Award for Music Excellence and multiple Rose Bowl awards at the Kiwanis Music Festival. She’s poised to continue her journey as a champion for music education, leveraging her recent completion of her Music Education degree to inspire future generations.
