Frequently Asked Questions
Being a member of Shallaway Youth Choir offers the opportunity of a life-enhancing experience for youth and families. All worthwhile and rewarding endeavors involve fun and satisfying experiences along with dedicated hard work. Further, the limited time available for chorister development and preparation requires maximum attendance. The requirements for membership in Shallaway Youth Choir are reasonable, fair and necessary to continue the choir’s tradition of developing exceptional young people, which has been built since our inception in 1992.
Each ensemble rehearses once a week at a consistent time. Additionally, during the lead-up to a concert there are 1-2 extra dress rehearsals and these will be included on the schedule that is posted at the beginning of each season. For younger children there is a day tour at the end of the year, while older choristers are required to attend two weekend retreats throughout the year as well as an annual tour.
A schedule with all concerts, rehearsals, camps, and tours is released prior to the beginning of the year. The only rehearsals that are mandatory are dress rehearsals for concerts and rehearsals prior to tour.
No previous choral or voice lesson experience is required unless auditioning for our advanced Exsultate ensemble.
The Shallaway Youth Choir season typically runs from early September to the end of May for most choristers, and until the end of June for Jubilate and Camerata.
Shallaway Youth Choir typically has three major concerts per year.
Choristers’ attendance at concerts, dress rehearsals, and tours is mandatory.
