Anna Mercer is an 18-year old soprano from Coleys Point. She grew up in a musical family and has been making music her whole life.
Since 2014 she has studied with retired COC soprano, Sonya Gosse and takes every opportunity to make music whenever she can.
In both 2017 and 2018 Anna attended the Vocal Technique Workshop in St. Andrews, NB where she studied with Wendy Nielsen. Anna has performed at many master classes and recitals at MUN’s School of Music and has attended MUN’s Song Academy summer program since 2015.
In 2019 Anna was awarded Debut Atlantic’s prestigious Award for Music Excellence. As part of this honour she travelled to PEI and perform at the Indian River Music Festival.
Along with other awards and scholarships, she won the Kiwanis Jr. Rose Bowl in 2015 and 2017. In 2018 she won the Senior Bowl, the Provincial Music Festival and competed in the National Music Festival in Sackville.
Anna is the conductor and founder of the Storm Jib choir for ages 3 to 10, which is focused solely on authentic NL folk music and the music of Indigenous people. Storm Jib is recognized and supported by the Bruneau Centre for Excellence in Choral Music.
Anna will be starting her university music studies in vocal performance at MUN in September under the tutelage of Jane Leibel and looks forward to a lifetime of music making.
